Islam in Contemporary World, by Asghar Ali Engineer

Asghar Ali Engineer, Islam in Contemporary World, New Dawn Press, 2007.

Evaluating Islam in the context of both its origin and as it applies to current societal needs, this book examines how the transcendental nature of the Qur’an can be related to the demands of the contemporary world. Covering such themes as Shari’ah law and its potential for change, globalization, and gender justice, this study will interest scholars, students of Islamic study, social scientists, and lay readers.

Asghar Ali Engineer (1939- 2013), an Indian Muslim, was a reformist-writer and activist. He was the head of the Institute of Islamic Studies and the Centre for Study of Society and Secularism.
